Job Description

Yamaha Guitar Group (Calabasas, CA) seeks an Embedded Systems Engineer to design, develop, and debug software for real-time embedded systems in C/C++ and assembly language, and function as a technical liaison between our Calabasas engineering team and teams at our parent company in Japan. Duties include: collaborate with engineers, product managers, and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and meet customer needs; accurately estimate time requirements and participate in project planning meetings; read electrical schematics and write embedded software that properly interfaces with associated hardware and other software applications; design and develop embedded software to satisfy product requirements and meet real-time requirements; design and develop embedded software testing modules to allow testing of the embedded device during design and production; implement digital signal processing algorithms to meet product audio requirements; utilize integrated development environments (IDE), JTAG, system profiling, and other methods to efficiently debug embedded software issues and inefficiencies; analyze and modify existing embedded software to improve upon implementations and/or adapt to other architectures; attend project meetings and monitor other project correspondences associated with projects co-developed with our parent company in Japan; proactively identify important details and potential issues to ensure teams in both divisions are aligned and have a consistent understanding of the status, definition, and deliverables of the project; provide reports to Project Management and Engineering, outlining important items discussed during meetings and emails, and identifying potential misunderstandings to optimize collaboration; facilitate effective communication between our US-based and Japan-based guitar teams.


Job Requirements

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study, plus 2 years of experience in the job offered, as an Assistant Engineering Manager, or similar position in the audio industry. Specific experience must include experience: writing software for embedded systems using C/C++ and/or assembly language; designing and implementing low-level APIs, interrupts, and hardware interface code for microprocessors; working in software systems meeting strict real-time constraints; working on a medium sized multi-functional team; reading electrical schematics.
